Methodology
Every number in ExitCue is an estimate, and every estimate should be explainable. This page describes where prices come from, how your values are calculated, and, just as importantly, what these numbers are not.
Source of pricing data
Estimated share prices come from a leading marketplace where private-company shares are bought and sold by eligible participants: real bids, offers, and closed transactions. The marketplace publishes a daily estimated price for companies with sufficient trading activity, denominated in US dollars (stored and calculated in cents). Our data provider is identified in the disclosures.
As-of dates
Every price carries the calendar date it was calculated for (UTC). When you see “as of July 27,” that's the most recent day for which source data exists, not necessarily today. If newer data hasn't been published, we keep showing the last observed price with its actual date. We never relabel an old price as current.
Missing data and gaps
Some companies have no pricing data at all; we show that state explicitly rather than a zero or a placeholder number. Price history can have gaps: days with no observation. Charts render those gaps as empty space. We do not interpolate across gaps or present smoothed lines as observed data.
How your values are calculated
For common stock, RSAs, and RSUs: estimated value = share count × estimated share price. For stock options (ISOs and NSOs) we show three numbers separately: gross underlying value (shares × price), exercise cost (shares × strike price), and estimated pre-tax spread (the difference, which can be negative). The spread is not guaranteed proceeds. Taxes, fees, and transfer restrictions all reduce what a sale could actually return.
Vested and unvested shares are computed from your grant's vesting schedule as of today's date, using integer share allocation (no fractional-share rounding drift).
What these numbers are not
Private-company shares are illiquid and transfer-restricted. An estimated share price is not an offer, a quote, or a promise of what you would receive in a transaction. Actual outcomes depend on company approval, buyer demand, fees, taxes, and timing, and may differ materially from any estimate shown here.
Currency
All values are in US dollars. Money math is performed in integer cents.
